PERSONALITY: Smokey's composition and running performances always keep us on our toes, cheering. He had once had us on our toes, and then on the track, diving to go and grab him. He had fractured a bone, and we had forgotten everything, his record, his past, on that single night. We brought him to the vet, and used as much money as we could to save him. Finally, the doctor had come back, saying, he was fine. We were all so glad. We were sure to retire him, but he always fought to go back on the track. So, we decided to let him back on, and he brought us home a third. We were so proud, so we kept him on the track. Smokey will be glad to take on any competitor, even if it means loosing. All he wants is to impress us and show him he has no fear. Smokey is a tough horse, with a large heart, he can get very feisty around other stallions, and prefers a fight rather than to be dragged away. He always ignores his differences though in a race, we are proud to own him. After being retired Smokey never liked being a stud, he was bored and under stimulated. So we decided to get him into showing. He loved the thrill of the crowds, how decorated he got before a show and just being a show horse. We're so glad he loves it.
HISTORY: When we first got Smokey we were thrilled. He was one of our first horses and we loved him. Of course being a heavy racing stable he was enrolled in racing. There he was a superstar. He'd leave the field in his dust as he took the win each time, we couldn't believe we had such a horse on our hands! At around Smokey's fifth race after being unbeaten he went through a tragic accident. While coming around the turn a horse stumbled, falling back quickly and ramming into Smokey. Smokey tried to dodge sideways but slammed into the rail and went flying to the inside track, or turf. The rail had snapped and Smokey had severely fractured his front right leg. But we were determined to keep him. We did everything we could to keep him alive. He had been the superstar at age three. It took a year for his injury to heal, and a miracle happened, the vet accepted Smokey back into racing. We worked months on end to get him back into shape and he loved it. We lost his earlier record after taking care of him for a year. After a few races Smokey started to come back into the racing business, although he did not win, he got seconds and thirds and we knew he would take the field soon. Unfortunately his injury started to act up and he had a hairline fracture on the same spot. Of course we decided that he should be retired. For a while Smokey stood as a stud, but no one took him as a racehorse stud and he never seemed satisfied. So we decided to start showing him. Because of his injury he can only do Dressage and Halter. Recently he has done very well in the showing business.
